Last week we covered the words that Jesus spoke about Hell. This week, our focus is on what Jesus said about Heaven — His home, and the future home of all who trust in Jesus for the salvation of their soul. We must remember that under the Old Covenant no one went to Heaven when they died.

The Good News is that He died to keep you from going there. Saint Paul teaches us in Ephesians 4:9 that Christ our Lord descended into Hell after He offered His life on the cross. “Now that He ascended, what is it, but because He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?” Note here that Hell is described as having “parts” that is the four parts of Hell. Jesus spoke of heaven over 120 times.

Thank you Manuel for your comment. I can not speak for Pam who wrote this but Jesus is the One Who spoke about hell…can we call Him a liar? He spoke about hell nearly 10 times more than He did about heaven. The Good News is useless unless we first tell people of the bad news of hell. The Good News is that He died to keep you from going there. Saint Paul teaches us in Ephesians 4:9 that Christ our Lord descended into Hell after He offered His life on the cross.

Jesus spoke briefly about why hell was created, and its origins. Jesus, speaking about the day of judgment, will say to the unsaved, “‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels’” (Matthew 25:41).

Revelation 20:14 says, “Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you. Key Passages About Hell (1) Hell was designed originally for Satan and his demons (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10). (2) Hell will also punish the sin of those who reject Christ (Matthew 13:41,50; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:8). (3) Hell is conscious torment. Matthew 13:50 “furnace of fire…weeping and gnashing of teeth”

Never once? Let us count the times—you just might be a little shocked. Yep! Therefore this preaching of Jesus in hell was probably a message of victory over Satan and those spirits held prisoner in chains, not in hell itself where souls wait, but in the abyss beneath. This truth is reinforced by a passage in Ephesians that also speaks about Christ leading captivity captive. If an eternal hell awaits those not believing in Jesus, it’s important to note that Paul (the apostle to the gentiles) doesn’t mention this once in his letters.

He spoke about hell nearly 10 times more than He did about heaven. The Good News is useless unless we first tell people of the bad news of hell. The Good News is that He died to keep you from going there. For example: Jesus speaks of the kingdom of heaven as our ultimate goal in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12). Jesus teaches that our righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees if we want to go to heaven (Matthew Jesus speaks of going to hell for being angry at your brother Jesus taught much about Hell.

We find this idea in the teaching of Jesus in Luke 16:19-31, where Jesus speaks of a wicked rich man and a righteous poor man named Lazarus who had been a poor beggar. The wicked man who had “everything in life” goes to the place of torment, Hades, which is the closest thing to a Greek equivalent of the Hebrew “sheol,” while the poor man, Lazarus, goes to paradise.

The Bible speaks of hell as a place of absolute loneliness and despair and hopelessness. It calls it a place of “darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 22:13). But Jesus didn’t talk about hell just to scare us. He talked about it instead because He wanted us to know that God has provided a way of escape!

In Mark 9:43 Jesus speaks of a person going to "hell [gehenna], where 'their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.' Although Jesus made it clear that God greatly loves us, much of what we know about Hell and judgment comes from his own words. Jesus frequently referred to people in contrasting terms such as sheep and goats, sinners and righteous, children of God and children of the devil, and wheat and tares (weeds). Jesus spoke frequently about the coming judgment, warning about the consequences of rejecting the salvation He would give His life to provide. In the Olivet discourse, Jesus speaks in parables about what it will look like when He returns. This famous sermon includes the parable of the ten virgins and the ten talents.

The fourth time Jesus used gehenna was when he said:. And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell [gehenna—SGD].Again, Jesus spoke of gehenna consistently with imminent national judgment on Israel. This verse is often used to affirm that the soul of man cannot be destroyed, that we’re

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being But the way Jesus speaks of hell should make it clear that it is a threat. The pharisees assumed that due to their piety they would never end up there.

Each word he uses is different and has a different connotation. Gehenna, Sheol, Hades, Tartarus. Unfortunately, in the limited English language, they all translate to the same word: hell. So when those Pastors say that Jesus spoke of hell more times than anything…they have an agenda of fear In Luke 13:1–5, Jesus speaks of hell as punishment for the unrepentant, and those in hell are portrayed as perishing.
