The Sohlberg was made in both nations, because the Duchy of Finland was part of the Russian Empire. So, after the fall of this empire the Finnish made helmets. They were sold to the Russian 'white' troops and several new-born states as Poland, Czechoslowakia the Baltic states, and uprisings in former parte of the Russian and Austrian Empires.

The photo above dates from 1948 and shows an exhibition of the Sohlberg company at a trade fair in Norway. Among a selection of tin flashlights, metal badges also a brand new Raumalainen helmet is displayed. This model helmet was designed for use by the Russian army in the First World War and was produced at the Sohlberg factory but the revolutions of 1917 resulted in an independent Finnish state. The Reds in both the Finnish and Russian civil wars may have used these helmets in small numbers, along with a Russian produced version of the same helmet. The Finnish Revolution of 1917 stalled production of these helmets and when Finland became an independent State the helmets were incorporated into the new Finnish Army. Very nice early version of Sohlberg M 17 Imperial Russian steel helmet. Completed with its original cloth liner. d to sell, really nice original example.

The M17 helmet is more commonly known as the " Sohlberg " helmet by collectors. The helmet is a Russian design that was manufactured in Finland which was part of the Russian Empire. The M17 was produced at the Sohlberg and Holmberg factories in Helsinki in 1917.
